The H-D Military evolved from earlier High Standard target pistols to meet U.S. Ordnance training requirements during World War II, retaining the same fixed-barrel architecture later adapted for the integrally suppressed OSS/CIA HD-M.
This 4.5-inch model balances quickly while maintaining the inherent accuracy of a stationary barrel. Vertical slide serrations, a drift-adjustable rear notch, and a crisp single-action trigger support precise shot placement with standard-velocity .22 LR.
The external spur hammer, heel-type magazine release, and manual safety reflect the period’s design priorities for secure handling. All metal components wear the factory blued finish, complemented by original checkered walnut grips that remain sharp and undamaged.
Serial number 304476 places this pistol within the 1949 production block, a period when approximately 147,000 H-D Military pistols had been made since 1945, marking it as a late-production commercial example.
