Colt 2nd Generation C-Series Model 1848 Dragoon Third Model .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver — 1976
This Hartford-assembled Colt Model 1848 Dragoon is a 2nd Generation C-Series Third Model reproduction, produced in 1976 as one of only about 3,899 units made between 1974 and 1976. Built by Colt using authentic tooling and finishes, it retains the classic Dragoon features—including the roll-engraved Texas Ranger vs. Comanche battle scene—and delivers collector-grade fit and finish that set it apart from later non-Colt reproductions.

The 7.5-inch octagon-to-round barrel wears the correct “+ ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY +” top address, and the horizontal T-spring loading-lever latch matches original Third Model patterns. Royal Colt blue on the barrel and cylinder contrasts with the color case-hardened frame, producing the classic 19th-century appearance that collectors expect.
The cylinder’s full Texas Ranger vs. Comanche roll engraving remains crisp, flanked by “MODEL U.S.M.R.” and “COLT’S PATENT” markings—details that enhance both authenticity and display value.
A round brass trigger guard and brass backstrap frame a one-piece smooth walnut grip, completing the Third Model profile. Fixed sights comprise a brass blade front and hammer-notch rear, staying true to original Dragoon configurations.
This revolver is part of Colt’s limited C-Series run, assembled in Hartford with Colt quality control—an important distinction from later Signature Series reproductions made under different manufacturing contracts.
