Marlin Model 455 .30-06 Bolt-Action Rifle with FN Belgian Mauser Action & Micro-Groove Barrel
Built in the late 1950s on a FN-made Mauser 98 action, the Marlin Model 455 is one of the scarcest post-war Marlin center-fires—only about 1,138 were ever produced. This example pairs a factory-installed Lyman 48 micrometer rear sight with Marlin’s early stainless Micro-Groove barrel, giving collectors a rare mix of precision features and low production numbers. A Bishop-pattern walnut stock, adjustable Sako-style trigger, and JM-stamped barrel round out a rifle that stands apart both for its craftsmanship and its limited availability.

What’s Included
- Marlin Model 455 .30-06 bolt-action rifle
- Factory-installed Lyman 48 micrometer aperture rear sight
Produced between 1955 and 1959, the Model 455 was Marlin’s venture into premium sporting rifles built on the rugged FN commercial Mauser 98 controlled-round-feed platform. The left receiver wall is roll-marked “ACTION – MADE IN BELGIUM,” underscoring its FN heritage, while the barrel carries the desirable JM proof.
Marlin fitted the rifle with a 22.5-inch stainless barrel featuring the company’s proprietary Micro-Groove rifling—early use of this system in a .30-06 chambering. The 1:10 twist stabilizes a broad range of bullet weights, and the bore remains bright and crisp.
The walnut Bishop-pattern stock reflects the era’s move toward scoped shooting, offering a Monte-Carlo cheekpiece and sharp hand-cut checkering for a secure hold. Length of pull measures 13.75 inches, providing a comfortable fit for most shooters.
Performance-minded details include an adjustable Sako-pattern trigger, a three-position flag safety, and a straight bolt handle with a checkered knob for sure cycling. The original ramp front sight with bead pairs perfectly with the precise, factory-fitted Lyman 48 receiver sight.
