Product Description

    Mossberg Model 183D Bolt-Action .410 Bore Shotgun, 23" Threaded Barrel, 2+1 Capacity

The Mossberg Model 183D is the company’s first repeating shotgun, built in the United States between 1947 and 1971. This full-size, bolt-action .410 bore combines a compact 23" barrel with an external screw-on choke-tube system unique to the D-series. Chambered for both 2.5" and 3" shells and featuring a 2+1 internal box magazine, it offers a simple, reliable design that appeals to collectors of mid-century sporting arms—especially examples like this pre-1968 production piece that carries no serial number.

    What’s Included

    • Mossberg Model 183D bolt-action .410 bore shotgun

Introduced just after World War II, the 183D brought a repeating bolt-action design to the .410 market at a time when most small-bore shotguns were single shots. Its 2+1 internal magazine feeds smoothly from the right-side bolt, making follow-up shots quicker than many contemporaries.

The threaded muzzle accepts Mossberg’s screw-on chokes, allowing shooters to tailor shot patterns without swapping barrels. While the choke tube itself is not present here, the system’s threaded collar remains intact and ready for the correct tubes.

The shotgun’s 23" carbon-steel barrel is proof-marked “PROOF TESTED” and finished in period-correct bluing that has thinned from field use. A small steel front bead provides a straightforward sight picture for upland or informal clay shooting.

The hardwood stock retains its factory 13.5" length of pull and classic early-postwar profile. Despite handling marks, it remains structurally sound and secures the bolt-action receiver firmly in place.

Because this example left the factory before the 1968 Gun Control Act, it bears no serial number—an expected and fully lawful characteristic that underscores its mid-century production heritage.
