Winchester Model 1894 Pre-64 Sporting Rifle .30-30, 26-Inch Barrel, Mfd 1904
This 1904 Winchester Model 1894 Pre-64 Sporting Rifle pairs an early forged receiver with a later Winchester Proof Steel barrel, giving collectors a factory-sanctioned blend of eras. The long 26-inch barrel, straight-grip walnut stock, and 9+1 full-length magazine set it apart from the more common carbine variants. Dual “Model 1894/Model 94” roll marks, WP proofs, and drilled-and-tapped tang holes add desirable period details, while discreet sling-swivel studs make field carry easier without altering the rifle’s classic lines.

What’s Included
- Winchester Model 1894 Pre-64 Sporting Rifle in .30-30 with factory open sights and added sling-swivel studs
The receiver, serial number 311xxx, left the factory in 1904 and retains its original blued finish on forged carbon steel. Winchester later returned the rifle for a Proof Steel barrel, identifiable by the WP stamps and the post-1932 steel callout, ensuring safe use with modern .30-30 loads.
The uncommon 26-inch round barrel delivers a longer sight radius than carbine models and feeds from a full-length tubular magazine holding nine rounds plus one in the chamber. Open sights consist of a drift-adjustable front blade on a forged base and a semi-buckhorn rear with elevator, giving shooters classic sight pictures.
Walnut furniture features Winchester’s straight-grip profile with an oil finish that has aged evenly. Period-style sling-swivel studs, added at the buttstock toe and forend cap, provide a practical carry option without altering the rifle’s handling.
The tang is factory drilled and tapped for an aperture sight, offering an easy path to enhanced precision while preserving original metalwork. Combined with the crisp lever action and excellent bore, this Sporting Rifle remains ready for accurate range time or display in a Winchester collection.
