Product Description

    Sterling Arms Model 400 .380 ACP Compact DA/SA Pistol – Early 1976 U.S. Production

Made in 1976, this first-generation Sterling Arms Model 400 is one of the few U.S.-built double-action/single-action .380 ACP pistols produced after the 1968 import restrictions. Built entirely from carbon steel and tipping the scales at 25 oz, it offers the shootability of a full-sized blowback design in a compact footprint. Limited production between 1976 and 1980 makes surviving examples increasingly hard to find, adding genuine collector appeal to this already uncommon handgun.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

There are scattered light scratches and small blemishes on the blued finish, consistent with normal carry and storage. The bore is bright and shiny, reflecting regular cleaning and proper care.

    What’s Included

    • 2 factory 7-round single-stack magazines
    • Black nylon belt holster with hook-and-loop retention strap

The Model 400 is a true double-action/single-action blowback pistol, pairing an external spur hammer with a slide-mounted safety/decocker that physically blocks the firing pin for added security.

A heel-type magazine release underscores its European design influence, while vertical slide serrations give positive purchase during administrative handling.

Full-steel construction and a 3.6-inch barrel temper the .380 ACP recoil, making the pistol noticeably softer-shooting than many modern alloy or polymer counterparts in the same caliber.

Checkered hardwood grip panels provide a solid grasp and elevate its classic 1970s aesthetic. Combined with the durable blued finish, they create a period-correct look that collectors appreciate.

Fixed iron sights feature a square-notch rear adjustable for elevation and an integral front blade, offering a clean sight picture without snag-prone edges.
