Winchester Model 75 Target .22 LR Bolt-Action Rifle – Custom 20.5-Inch Heavy Barrel, Tasco 3-9×32 Scope
This post-war Winchester Model 75 Target began life as a factory heavy-barrel rimfire built for precision competition. Produced in 1948–49, it now carries a shortened 20.5-inch barrel, an aftermarket buttstock spacer with added counterweight, and a mounted Tasco 3-9×32 optic. The result is a purpose-tuned .22 LR that retains the Model 75’s forged bolt and detachable magazine while offering a more compact, scope-ready profile.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Fair – generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.
Rifling: Excellent – sharp lands and grooves.
Specific condition notes: The barrel displays scattered pitting. The walnut stock remains solid, though one screw was previously over-torqued. A custom stone spacer/counterweight is fitted between the stock and a Remington hard-rubber butt-plate. Factory iron sights have been removed.

The Model 75 Target was Winchester’s final pre-64 rimfire target rifle, with about 88,700 produced from 1938 to 1958. This example, serial range 88 xxx, dates to the late 1940s and shows the classic grooved receiver for scope mounts and an inletted accessory rail under the beavertail fore-end.
The factory heavy barrel has been professionally cut to 20.5 inches, giving the rifle a handier balance while keeping the stout profile that dampens .22 LR recoil. A 1:16 RH twist remains, paired with excellent rifling for consistent bullet stability.
An aftermarket amber spacer adds length of pull and serves as a counterweight, complemented by a Remington hard-rubber butt-plate that caps the walnut stock. The beavertail fore-end provides a stable rest, and the accessory rail with eight attachment holes is ready for a sling swivel or palm stop.
The Tasco 3-9×32 scope extends the rifle’s practical range on small-bore targets. Weaver split rings clamp securely to the receiver’s factory grooves, so no extra drilling or tapping was required.
