Brownells BRN-16A1 Retro Series 5.56mm NATO Semi-Automatic Rifle – 20" Chrome-Lined “Pencil” Barrel, Grey Anodized Finish, Limited-Run Collectible
This BRN-16A1 comes from Brownells’ discontinued Retro Series, a limited run that faithfully recreates the late-1960s M16A1 service rifle in civilian, semi-automatic form. Built on forged 7075-T6 receivers with an era-correct grey anodized finish, it combines historical accuracy with modern manufacturing quality. Collectors appreciate its period-correct details, while shooters value its light 20" chrome-lined pencil barrel and reliable direct-impingement action.

What’s Included
- Brownells BRN-16A1 rifle
- One 20-round Brownells aluminum straight-pattern magazine
- One 30-round Brownells aluminum curved-pattern magazine (sealed in factory bag)
The BRN-16A1 mirrors the original M16A1 with its slim “pencil” barrel, A1 flash hider, bayonet lug, and triangular polymer handguards. At just under seven pounds unloaded, the lightweight profile makes handling lively without sacrificing the 20" sight radius long-range shooters appreciate.
The barrel’s 1:12" right-hand twist is optimized for 55-grain M193 ammunition, replicating the performance of the Vietnam-era service load. A chrome-lined bore resists corrosion and simplifies maintenance, while 1/2-28 TPI muzzle threads invite easy attachment of modern flash hiders or suppressor mounts.
Receivers are forged from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in a hard-coat grey anodizing that closely matches the look of original Colt rifles. Period-correct touches include the teardrop forward assist and the absence of a shell deflector, maintaining authentic lines.
The fixed A1 buttstock with trap-door storage, A1 pistol grip, and iron sights (fixed front post, two-position rear aperture) complete the historically accurate package. As part of Brownells’ now-discontinued Retro Series (2018–2023), this limited-edition rifle has become increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who want a faithful reproduction without paying vintage-rifle premiums.
