Sako Finnwolf VL63 Standard .308 Win. Lever-Action Rifle – 1972 Finnish-Made, Rare Collectible
The Sako Finnwolf VL63 is one of the few European lever-action rifles ever produced, and this 1972 example remains highly sought after for its unique rotating bolt, smooth 60-degree lever throw, and classic Finnish craftsmanship. Only about 13,000 Finnwolfs left the Sako factory between 1963 and 1974, making each surviving rifle a scarce find—especially in the versatile .308 Winchester chambering featured here.

What’s Included
- Sako VL63 factory 3-round detachable box magazine
The Finnwolf’s rotary multi-lug bolt allows safe use of spitzer-profile bullets, giving it an accuracy and pressure advantage over many traditional lever guns. Coupled with Sako’s proprietary tapered-dovetail rail, the receiver is scope-ready without the need for additional bases.
This rifle retains its factory 23-inch polished blued barrel and receiver, both displaying rich finish and clear Finnish proof marks. The original iron sights remain, with a ramped front blade and the base of the ladder-leaf rear still in place for those who prefer open-sight shooting.
The gloss-lacquered walnut stock showcases skip-line chequering and a Monte Carlo comb, enhancing grip and cheek weld. A period-correct Pachmayr “White Line” ventilated recoil pad has been professionally fitted, setting the length of pull at 13 inches while softening felt recoil.
Collectors value the VL63 for its limited production, European heritage, and innovative mechanism. This 1972 serial-numbered rifle embodies all three, making it a standout example ready for restoration or careful range use.
