This Python was built on Colt’s large I-frame, delivering a six-shot cylinder and the famed smooth DA/SA trigger pull that collectors associate with early 1970s production. The E-prefix serial (E55493) confirms 1973 manufacture, well within the period when Colt armorers individually hand-fitted and polished each revolver.
The carbon-steel frame, cylinder, and 6-inch barrel all wear Colt’s lustrous Royal Blue bluing, a finish process no longer offered by the factory. A ventilated rib and full under-lug add weight forward for steady off-hand shooting while giving the Python its unmistakable profile.
Sighting duties are handled by a pinned, serrated ramp front sight and an Elliason fully-adjustable rear, allowing precise zeroing with a variety of .357 Magnum loads. The wide serrated trigger and exposed target hammer provide positive control for both double- and single-action shooting.
Aftermarket Pachmayr Presentation grips replace the original wood stocks, supplying a tacky, recoil-absorbing surface favored by many shooters. No permanent modifications were made to the frame, so original-style grips can be installed if desired.
