Product Description

Remington Model 1100 Field Grade 16 Gauge Semi-Auto Shotgun, 28" Vent Rib, Factory Engraved

This mid-1970s Remington Model 1100 Field Grade pairs the smooth-cycling gas-operated action that defined the 1100 line with the less common 16 gauge chambering. Factory scroll engraving, a 28-inch vent-rib barrel, and attractive gloss-finished walnut furniture give this full-size shotgun both function and classic field appeal. Production of 16 gauge 1100s ceased in the late 1980s, making original examples like this one increasingly hard to find.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Specific Condition Notes: The metal surfaces display scattered scratches, blemishes, and areas of finish loss consistent with regular field use; wood shows handling marks but retains its gloss finish.

    What's Included

    • Remington Model 1100 Field Grade 16 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun

The L-prefix serial number places manufacture in the mid-1970s, while the “W” suffix confirms a factory 16 gauge receiver. Remington ended 16 gauge 1100 production in the late 1980s, so surviving examples carry added collector interest, especially those still wearing their original barrels and furniture.

The shotgun retains its 28-inch carbon-steel barrel with a ventilated rib and cylinder bore, chambered for 2 3/4" shells. The original magazine plug remains installed, limiting capacity to 2 + 1 rounds for field compliance.

Remington’s gas-operated action, introduced on the Model 1100 in 1963, is known for reducing felt recoil and delivering reliable cycling with standard 16 gauge loads. This system later influenced several other Remington autoloaders.

Factory scroll engraving—white-filled to highlight the pattern—accents the blued carbon-steel receiver. Gloss-finished walnut furniture features cut checkering on the pistol-grip stock and a matching fluted fore-end, providing a secure hold and classic aesthetic.
