Product Description

    Smith & Wesson Model 640 No-Dash Centennial .38 Special, Stainless, 1 7/8" Barrel, 1990s Production

This early no-dash Model 640 represents the first fully stainless, internal-hammer J-Frame revolver Smith & Wesson produced. Built between 1989 and 1995, it features a pre-lock action with forged parts, a smooth double-action-only trigger, and is factory rated for +P ammunition. The revolver offered here includes an aftermarket black synthetic boot grip for discreet carry, plus the original factory walnut service grips and the period-correct blue S&W box.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.

Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: Light surface scratches are present on the frame and cylinder. Minor carbon scoring is visible on the cylinder face.

    What’s Included

    • Smith & Wesson factory walnut round-butt service grip panels with silver medallions (loose)
    • Smith & Wesson factory blue cardboard revolver box with “Revolver” graphics
    • Smith & Wesson Revolvers safety & instruction manual

The 1 7/8" stainless barrel carries a shrouded ejector rod that streamlines the profile and protects critical parts during carry. Fixed sights consist of an integral serrated ramp front and a square-notch trench rear, a proven combination for snag-free drawing.

Its internal hammer design eliminates external edges, making this Centennial-series revolver well suited for pocket or ankle holsters. The smooth, combat-style trigger delivers consistent double-action pulls without the interruption of a single-action notch.

Being a pre-lock, forged-part S&W from the early 1990s, the revolver retains the traditional build quality collectors seek. The plus-P rating expands ammunition choices while preserving the lightweight J-Frame dimensions.

An aftermarket black synthetic boot grip is installed for reduced printing and improved concealment. For collectors who prefer the classic look, the original walnut service grips are included and can be reinstalled without modification.
