This 2012-manufactured Marlin Model 336W delivers classic .30-30 lever-gun handling with a few noteworthy touches. Built during the Remington-era in Ilion, New York, it features Marlin’s Micro-Groove rifling, a gold-colored trigger, and a factory-drilled receiver now fitted with a Weaver/Picatinny rail. The 336W variant has been discontinued, making clean examples like this one increasingly scarce.
Condition
Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent – Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling – Sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: The rear filler screw on the drilled and tapped receiver is stripped. Light scuffs and scratches are present on the metal and wood surfaces, but the rifle remains in great shape overall.

Marlin introduced the Model 336W as an economy variant for large retailers, yet it retains the same receiver design and smooth lever action that define the 336 lineage. The model is now discontinued, adding collector interest to this well-kept example.
The 20" blued barrel uses Marlin’s Micro-Groove system with 12 shallow lands, a pattern prized for its clean, easy-to-maintain bore. Paired with an excellent bore condition, it offers crisp rifling ready for accurate hunting or range use.
This rifle left the Ilion factory in 2012, identified by the MR prefix in the serial number. Remington-era production was limited, giving guns from this period their own place in Marlin history.
A factory-drilled receiver now wears an installed Weaver/Picatinny rail, providing a solid platform for the buyer’s choice of optics while keeping the original adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight usable if desired.
Traditional Marlin touches remain: a gold-colored trigger, walnut-stained hardwood furniture with pressed checkering, and the familiar cross-bolt safety. Together, they make this 336W both functional in the field and recognizable on the rack.
