The heart of the 308MXLR is its 24-inch stainless steel barrel with Marlin’s Micro-Groove rifling and a 1:10 twist, designed to maximize the .308 Marlin Express cartridge’s velocity and energy. The result is extended, flat-shooting range from a lever gun without sacrificing reliability.
A satin stainless receiver, barrel, and small parts resist corrosion in harsh weather, while the gray/black laminated hardwood stock and forend add strength and stability. Cut checkering, a Monte Carlo comb, and a factory recoil pad provide secure handling and shooter comfort.
Iron sights come standard: a hoodless ramp front post and an adjustable semi-buckhorn rear. Pre-installed scope rings and an offset hammer spur make it easy to add optics while maintaining safe hammer control.
Internal capacity is 4+1 rounds, fed through a traditional tubular magazine. Safety features include a cross-bolt safety and hammer-block, giving the shooter modern redundancies in a classic action.
Produced only from 2007 to 2010 in Marlin’s North Haven, Connecticut plant, the 308MXLR represents the company’s final pre-acquisition stainless lever rifles. Its limited availability, JM-stamp authenticity, and purpose-built caliber contribute to its collectible appeal.
