Product Description

DWM Modelo Argentino 1891 Cavalry Carbine, 7.65x53mm Mauser, Bolt-Action, C-Prefix Matching Receiver & Barrel

This Modelo Argentino 1891 Cavalry Carbine—often referenced by collectors as “Modelo Argentino mfg 1899”—is an early Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) production piece built on the renowned Mauser platform. Produced in the C-prefix block, it retains its Argentine crest, matching receiver and barrel numbers, and the distinctive side-mounted sling bar and ring unique to cavalry carbines. A detachable single-column magazine, uncommon among Mauser rifles, and clear Prussian eagle proof marks add further collector appeal.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good Rifling – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: Serial number C 5541 matches on the receiver and barrel; the floorplate is non-matching. The Argentine crest remains sharp. Bluing shows expected thinning on high points, while the receiver correctly remains in the white. Wood shows light handling marks but no cracks.

    What’s Included

    • DWM Modelo Argentino 1891 Cavalry Carbine
    • Detachable 5-round magazine (installed)

The short 17.6-inch barrel and side sling bar mark this as the true cavalry variant, designed for mounted troops needing a compact yet full-power rifle. Chambered in 7.65x53mm Mauser, it delivers the flat trajectory and reach that defined turn-of-the-century military arms.

DWM assumed production from Ludwig Loewe in the early 1890s; this carbine, bearing the company’s marks and proofed with the Prussian eagle and “SB” stamp, represents that transitional era. These identifiers confirm German manufacture before final delivery to Argentina.

The detachable single-column magazine sets the 1891 pattern apart from later internal-magazine Mausers. Retention is via the front catch, and the magazine’s serialized body still fits snugly, feeding smoothly through the straight-bolt action.

Walnut furniture—stock and matching handguard—shows tight fitment and the classic reddish-brown tone associated with Argentine contract rifles. Length of pull measures 13 inches, providing a comfortable shoulder fit while maintaining the carbine’s compact profile.

Sighting is handled by an inverted-V front sight with protective ears and a tangent rear sight graduated from 300 to 1,400 meters, reflecting the era’s emphasis on long-range volley fire.
