Product Description

    Remington Model 722 A Grade .257 Roberts Bolt-Action Carbine – 20" Barrel, Early 1950s

This A Grade Remington Model 722 is an attractive example of the company’s first post-war short-action rifle and a direct predecessor to the famous Model 700. Chambered in the desirable .257 Roberts and built in the early 1950s, it pairs a quick-handling 20-inch carbon-steel barrel with a plain-grained walnut stock. An aftermarket recoil pad, deleted iron sights, and installed Weaver two-piece scope bases make this classic ready for precise field work or bench duty while preserving its vintage character.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.

Bore Condition: Excellent - Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The rifle shows light handling marks and a few shallow surface scratches, consistent with careful use over its lifetime.

    What’s Included

    • Weaver-style two-piece scope bases (installed)

The Model 722’s cylindrical receiver and “two rings of steel” bolt head formed the engineering foundation for the later Model 700, giving this rifle enduring mechanical credibility.

This carbine wears a 20-inch carbon-steel barrel—shorter than the more common 24-inch length—making it noticeably lighter and quicker to shoulder without sacrificing the .257 Roberts’ balanced ballistics.

The plain A Grade walnut stock features a straight comb, small oval pistol grip, and factory sling-swivel studs. A soft black rubber recoil pad was added post-production, extending the length of pull to a comfortable 13.75 inches.

Iron sights were removed in favor of the included Weaver two-piece steel bases, providing a secure platform for the shooter’s choice of optic while maintaining a clean, uncluttered barrel profile.

A two-position safety with a red “fire” indicator dot, an internal four-round fixed magazine, and smooth bolt operation round out a rifle that blends mid-century craftsmanship with thoughtful updates for modern use.
