Ruger M77 Standard Tang-Safety .30-06 Bolt Action Rifle, 1981 “Red-Pad” Variant
This first-generation Ruger M77 combines classic lines, a strong Mauser-style claw extractor, and the desirable tang safety that collectors seek. Built in 1981 and marked with the 75- serial prefix, it retains the original red recoil pad and integral Ruger scope bases with factory rings. What’s Included
- Ruger M77 Standard Tang-Safety .30-06 rifle
- Pair of Ruger factory scope rings (mounted on integral bases)
The tang-mounted, two-position safety sits naturally under the shooter’s thumb, a feature unique to early M77 production and prized for its intuitive operation. Ruger later moved the safety to the side—making this tang-safety model increasingly uncommon.
The 22-inch alloy-steel barrel is finished in a deep, even blue that matches the receiver. Inside, the bore presents a mirror-bright surface with sharp rifling, ready for precise accuracy across the .30-06’s broad bullet weight range.
The walnut Monte Carlo stock features crisp cut checkering, dual sling-swivel studs, and the original Ruger red recoil pad. The 13.5-inch length of pull fits most shooters comfortably while maintaining the classic look of early-’80s Rugers.
A controlled hinged floorplate magazine holds four rounds, offering quick, secure unloading without fully cycling the bolt. Combined with the Mauser-style external claw extractor, the action provides reliable, positive feed and extraction—an engineering hallmark of the first-generation M77.
