Remington Model 700 RS .280 Rem Bolt Action Rifle – Limited 1987-88 Synthetic-Stock Variant
Produced for only two years, the Model 700 RS is the first factory synthetic-stocked 700 and one of the hardest-to-find chamberings in .280 Rem. This late-1980s rifle pairs Remington’s proven 700 action with a DuPont Rynite grey/black marbled stock, factory open sights, and a handy 22-inch carbon-steel barrel. Collectors value the RS for its short production run, while hunters appreciate its light weight and weather resistance.

What’s Included
- 1" scope rings (pair)
- One-piece scope base (installed)
Limited to 1987–1988 production, the RS was Remington’s testbed for synthetic stocks. The DuPont Rynite material resists moisture and temperature swings better than wood, and the integral sling studs and solid recoil pad add field convenience.
The .280 Rem chambering is the scarcest of the RS variants, with fewer units produced than more common calibers. Paired with a 1:10 twist, the 22" carbon-steel barrel offers reliable accuracy across the .280’s bullet weight range.
Unlike most later synthetic 700s, this rifle retains factory open sights: a ramped front post with band protector and an adjustable rear barrel sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped, and the included one-piece base and rings simplify scope installation without altering the original sights.
A matte-blued carbon-steel receiver houses the smooth 700 bolt, feeding from an internal 4-round magazine for a total capacity of 4+1. The serial prefix C64 confirms late-1980s Ilion, New York production.
The stock’s raised cheek-piece and 13.25" length of pull promote comfortable alignment, and the rifle’s overall balance makes it well suited for hunting or range use while holding collector appeal due to its short run and unique configuration.
