Product Description

Browning B-78 .45-70 Govt. Single Shot Rifle – 24" Octagonal Barrel, Crescent Steel Buttplate, 1970s Miroku Production

This Browning B-78 is a collectible, single-shot rifle chambered in .45-70 Government and built by Miroku in the early 1970s. With fewer than 25,000 B-78s produced, it offers both scarcity and a modern take on John Browning’s legendary 1885 High Wall design. The 24-inch octagonal barrel, deep blued steel, and glossy walnut furniture give it classic lines, while the patented falling-block safety system (U.S. Patent 3,830,000) reflects thoughtful engineering improvements.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Very good condition, showing only light, superficial signs of prior handling or use.
Bore Condition: Excellent – Clean, mirror finish, no signs of wear.
Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling – Sharp lands and grooves.
Specific Condition Notes: The rifle shows a few small surface scratches on the metal and wood. The trigger occasionally fails to engage after the hammer is cocked.

    What’s Included

    • Browning B-78 .45-70 Govt. single shot rifle

The B-78’s falling-block action is machined from blued steel, delivering the robust lock-up and smooth cycling that single-shot enthusiasts appreciate. An exposed hammer adds traditional appeal, while the updated safety system meets modern expectations.

The 24-inch octagonal barrel balances well and maximizes velocity from the .45-70 cartridge. Deep bluing complements the barrel flats and provides corrosion resistance that has clearly been well-maintained.

Gloss walnut furniture features crisp checkering on a pistol-grip stock and beavertail fore-end, offering secure handling and period-correct styling. A crescent steel buttplate finishes the classic look and aids shouldering.

Open sights include a hoodless blade front and an adjustable buckhorn rear, giving shooters a ready-to-use sight picture that fits the rifle’s vintage aesthetic.

With its limited production run, high-grade materials, and faithful homage to the original High Wall, this B-78 stands out as a desirable piece for shooters and collectors alike.
