The 14-inch carbon-steel bull barrel was introduced for silhouette competition and maximizes the .375 Winchester’s ballistic performance while keeping recoil controllable. Its heavy contour also stabilizes off-hand shots and dissipates heat efficiently.
The Easy-Open frame, introduced in the early 1990s, features a revised latch that requires minimal effort to break open for loading or barrel changes. This frame accepts all standard G1 barrels, allowing users to swap calibers without tools.
Factory engraving covers the frame sides with scrollwork and the iconic cougar-in-circle emblem, adding visual appeal and collector interest. The satin blued finish contrasts cleanly with the black composite finger-groove grip and matching bull-barrel forend.
An external hammer with a top-mounted firing-pin selector lets the shooter choose between centerfire and rimfire pins, broadening the frame’s versatility when paired with other barrels. A silver-colored ramp front sight blade is installed; the rear sight has been removed to accommodate the Weaver-style scope mount that comes pre-installed.
Made in Rochester, New Hampshire, around 1992 (serial 392868 range), this Contender represents a desirable blend of power, flexibility, and factory artistry in a single-shot handgun platform.
