This Centennial Edition was produced only during 2011–2012, giving it an immediate edge for collectors seeking limited-run commemoratives. Each pistol carries factory laser-engraved scrollwork and the “1911-2011” date ribbon, setting it apart from standard R1 variants.
The carbon-steel frame and slide wear a uniform satin black oxide finish that contrasts nicely with the dark red/brown diamond-checkered laminate grips capped by nickel “R” medallions. A rounded Commander-style hammer and solid short trigger preserve traditional 1911 ergonomics.
Performance features include a 5-inch stainless barrel with match crown and a 1:16 left-hand twist for reliable accuracy with standard .45 ACP loads. Sighting is quick thanks to a dovetailed brass-bead front post paired with a drift-adjustable rear notch.
Safety and handling align with Series-80 design elements: a beavertail grip safety, left-side thumb safety, and firing-pin block. Capacity is 8+1, and two factory magazines are provided.
With its limited production, commemorative engraving, and well-chosen performance upgrades, this Centennial Edition R1 offers both shooting utility and long-term collectible appeal.
