This Romanian-built SAR-1 is part of the first wave of Cugir AKM imports from 1999–2003, known for their original chrome-lined barrels and military-spec magazine wells. The rifle offered here blends that desirable early production foundation with practical upgrades, including a polymer railed handguard, multi-port muzzle brake, and Romanian wire side-folding stock, giving the shooter modern accessory options while preserving the rifle’s proven core.

Built on a stamped steel receiver with a ribbed top cover, this SAR-1 retains the original 16.25-inch chrome-lined barrel and 45° gas block complete with bayonet lug. The barrel is threaded 14×1 LH and currently fitted with an aftermarket multi-port cylindrical muzzle brake that tames recoil and muzzle rise.
The factory wood furniture has been replaced by a black polymer railed handguard featuring M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom, plus a matching ventilated gas-tube cover. These additions allow easy mounting of lights, grips, or other modern accessories without altering the rifle’s core mechanics.
A Romanian wire side-folding stock replaces the original laminated buttstock, providing a compact profile for transport while still offering a 14.25-inch length of pull when deployed. A standard black polymer AKM pistol grip rounds out the furniture set.
Open post front and tangent leaf rear sights maintain the classic sight picture, while the stamped receiver bears the Century Arms Georgia, VT import mark that identifies its U.S. entry point. With its early import heritage, durable chrome-lined barrel, and thoughtful upgrades, this SAR-1 presents a versatile platform for range use, collection, or further customization.
