The Springfield Armory EMP4 Lightweight Champion delivers the proven 1911 platform in a purpose-built, shortened architecture chambered for .40 S&W. Combining a forged aluminum alloy frame with a matte stainless slide, this bi-tone pistol offers reduced carry weight without giving up full-size handling. Built around Springfield’s EMP⁴ micro-1911 architecture, this pistol shortens the traditional 1911 platform front to back, resulting in improved ergonomics for shooters with a wide range of hand sizes while preserving a full 18-degree grip angle.
The 4-inch stainless bull barrel is match-grade, ramped, and paired with a 1:16 left-hand twist for consistent accuracy. A dual captive recoil spring system helps manage the sharper impulse of the .40 S&W cartridge, enhancing reliability and reducing muzzle rise.
Carry-oriented touches include 25 LPI checkering on both the front strap and mainspring housing, thin cocobolo double-diamond grips with medallions, and a lightweight skeletonized aluminum trigger. The combination offers a secure hold and crisp trigger press.
Bright fiber-optic front and low-profile two-dot rear sights provide a fast sight picture in varied lighting. Traditional 1911 controls—thumb safety, grip safety, and standard magazine release—remain familiar and intuitive.
This limited-production .40 S&W variant, identified by its “EMP” serial prefix, was produced in Geneseo, Illinois, and shipped with a full complement of factory accessories, making it a well-equipped package for range use or discreet carry.
