Colt Python 4-Inch .357 Magnum First-Generation K-Prefix Revolver, Royal Blue, 1981
This first-generation Colt Python, manufactured in 1981 with a K-prefix serial, showcases the hand-fitted workmanship that made the model a benchmark for double-action revolvers. Finished in Colt’s deep Royal Blue and built on the large I-frame, it features the original 4-inch vent-rib, full under-lug barrel and target-grade trigger and hammer. Collectors prize these early Pythons for their V-spring lock-work, smooth action, and limited production run.

What’s Included
- Colt Python 4-inch .357 Magnum revolver with checkered walnut grips and gold Colt medallions
Introduced in 1955 and often called the “Rolls-Royce” of Colt’s revolver line, the Python reached its peak of craftsmanship in early production runs like this 1981 example. Each part was hand-fit at the Colt Custom Shop, resulting in a glass-smooth double-action pull and a crisp single-action break.
The 4-inch carbon-steel barrel combines a ventilated rib for rapid sight acquisition with a full under-lug that adds weight forward, aiding recoil control in .357 Magnum. The barrel is crowned to protect the rifling, and the Royal Blue polish delivers a mirror-like finish that remains highly sought after.
Target-style controls include a wide, smooth trigger for consistent finger placement and a wide, serrated hammer spur for positive cocking. The fully adjustable Accro rear sight pairs with the pinned ramp front sight, allowing precise elevation and windage adjustments without tools.
The classic I-frame supports Colt’s V-spring mechanism, renowned for its durability and exceptionally smooth action. Paired with checkered walnut stocks set off by gold Colt medallions, the revolver balances traditional aesthetics with practical handling.
