Sig Sauer SIG516 Patrol Gen 2 5.56mm 16" Short-Stroke Piston AR-15 Rifle
The SIG516 Patrol Gen 2 stands out for combining Sig Sauer’s proven short-stroke piston system with a bullet-button magazine release. Built around a cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel and a four-position adjustable gas regulator, this discontinued Gen 2 model delivers reliable performance in a configuration authorized for sale in restrictive states. This SIG516 uses Sig Sauer’s short-stroke piston system, reducing fouling in the action and adding reliability under hard use. The four-position adjustable gas regulator lets you tune the rifle for standard, adverse, suppressor, or off settings, and it is rated to fire immediately after full water submersion—Sig’s “Over-the-Beach” capability.
The 16 inch barrel is cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined, phosphate finished, and threaded 1/2-28, giving the shooter a durable bore and the option to add compatible muzzle devices. A free-floating aluminum quad-rail handguard (Generation 2 design) offers ample space for lights, lasers, and accessories while preserving barrel harmonics.
Compliance is addressed with a factory-installed bullet-button magazine release and a 10-round steel magazine, allowing legal ownership without aftermarket modification. The collapsible polymer stock and Magpul pistol grip provide an ergonomic fit for a wide range of shooters.
Forged 7075-T6 aluminum receivers, black hardcoat finish, and flip-up iron sights complete a package that remains serviceable and adaptable even after the model’s 2019 discontinuation.
