This compact Coonan retains the classic 1911 control layout while chambering full-power .357 Magnum cartridges—a combination few production pistols offer. The recoil-operated, single-action mechanism mirrors Series 70 internals, delivering a crisp trigger enhanced by a skeletonized shoe and adjustable over-travel screw.
Its 4-inch match-grade stainless barrel is engineered for accuracy, pairing with a stainless slide that wears a durable matte black finish and deep rear cocking serrations for positive manipulation. The frame also receives the matte black treatment, complementing the black checkered aluminum grip panels capped by Coonan logo medallions.
For low-light confidence, the pistol is outfitted with a pinned tritium front sight and an AmeriGlo tritium rear, forming a clear three-dot night-sight picture. Safety is managed by a grip safety, bilateral thumb safeties, and a Series 70 firing system—all familiar to 1911 enthusiasts.
The Compact’s 6+1 capacity keeps the grip short for easier concealment, while the commander-style skeletonized hammer reduces lock time. With limited production numbers and Coonan’s discontinuation, this model has become both hard to find and highly collectible.
