The VP40 delivers Heckler & Koch’s proven striker-fired design in a full-size .40 S&W package. Built in Germany and imported by HKI-Columbus, this pistol combines a cold hammer-forged polygonal barrel rated for +P ammunition, fully ambidextrous controls, and a modular grip system that lets shooters tailor the fit with 27 possible combinations. Luminous 3-dot steel sights and charging support wings round out a sidearm engineered for confident handling day or night.

Heckler & Koch engineered the VP40 around a 4.09 inch cold hammer-forged barrel featuring polygonal rifling for long service life and easy maintenance. The barrel is non-threaded and rated for +P .40 S&W loads, giving shooters flexibility in ammunition choice without sacrificing durability.
Fully ambidextrous controls include paddle-style magazine releases, bilateral slide stops, and charging support wings at the rear of the slide. These wings provide extra purchase for easier manipulation, especially when operating the pistol with gloved or wet hands.
The VP’s grip system comes with interchangeable backstraps and side panels, allowing 27 distinct grip size combinations. Combined with the glass-fiber-reinforced polymer frame, this design helps shooters quickly align the sights and manage recoil.
A 5-pound articulated safety blade trigger delivers a short, tactile reset, contributing to fast follow-up shots. Additional safety is provided by an internal striker block and a trigger safety, eliminating the need for external levers.
Steel 3-dot sights use photo-luminescent inserts—yellow on the front post and white on the drift-adjustable rear—to enhance sight visibility in low light. Front and rear cocking serrations on the slide further improve handling for administrative checks and press-checks.
