Product Description

Colt Gold Cup National Match Mid-Range .38 Special MK III Semi-Auto Pistol – 1966 Bright Nickel, 5" National Match Barrel

Built in 1966 and produced in a run of fewer than 10,000, this Colt Gold Cup National Match Mid-Range MK III is a purpose-built .38 Special 1911 variant prized by target shooters and collectors alike. Its straight-blowback action, National Match barrel, and factory Elliason rear sight were engineered for flush-seated wadcutter loads, giving the pistol match-grade accuracy and a unique place in Colt history. The bright nickel finish, wide match trigger, and checkered walnut grips complete a full-size handgun that blends competition performance with distinctive style.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good – Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Good – Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

The bright nickel finish shows scattered scratches, small blemishes, and areas of finish loss. The current nickel coating is not original to the pistol.

    What’s Included

    • Colt Gold Cup National Match Mid-Range .38 Special MK III pistol
    • Aftermarket .38 Special Mid-Range 5-round steel magazine

This Mid-Range variant departs from the standard 1911 by using a straight-blowback system tailored to low-recoil .38 Special wadcutters. The MK III-marked National Match barrel is hand-fitted for tight tolerances, complementing the pistol’s flat, full-length rib and anti-glare serrations for a crisp sight picture.

A wide grooved trigger with an over-travel screw allows precise adjustment, while the wide spur hammer and tuned sear deliver a clean, consistent break. The lowered and flared ejection port aids reliability when cycling rimmed .38 Special cases.

Target shooters will appreciate the Patridge front sight paired with an Elliason micrometer rear sight, offering repeatable windage and elevation adjustments. Checkered walnut grips with Colt medallions provide secure purchase and classic aesthetics.

With its limited production, specialized chambering, and Gold Cup-grade hand fitting, this 1966 Mid-Range remains a sought-after piece for both the range and the collection.
