Colt Defender Series 90 Lightweight .45 ACP Compact 1911 Pistol – 3" Bull Barrel, Two-Tone, 7+1
The Colt Defender Series 90 Lightweight distills the classic 1911 into a reliable 3-inch, aluminium-frame package that weighs just under 24 ounces. Introduced as Colt’s first true sub-compact 1911, this 2008-produced example pairs a brushed stainless slide with a matte-anodized alloy frame, dual-spring bull barrel system, and Novak three-dot sights. It offers full-power .45 ACP performance in a size suited for discreet carry or range practice, while retaining the familiar single-action trigger and grip angle enthusiasts expect from a Colt.

The Defender’s 3" stainless bull barrel is bushing-less and backed by a dual recoil spring assembly designed to enhance reliability in short-slide 1911s. The setup helps manage recoil while ensuring consistent lock-up shot to shot.
A 7075-T6 aluminium alloy frame keeps weight low without sacrificing strength. Its matte stainless anodized finish complements the brushed stainless slide, creating the distinctive two-tone look used on Defenders from 2004–2010.
Carry-oriented features include fixed Novak three-dot sights, rear cocking serrations, a skeletonized three-hole trigger, and a skeletonized commander-style hammer. A beavertail grip safety, extended thumb safety, and Series 80 firing-pin block provide layered, familiar controls.
Rubber Hogue finger-groove wraparound grips with Colt medallions offer a secure purchase and absorb recoil. The compact 6.75" overall length and roughly 5.1" height make the pistol easy to conceal while still accommodating a full-size grip for most shooters.
Serial prefix DR places this example within the 2007–2008 Colt recall range—information collectors and owners may find useful. With its 7+1 capacity, established Defender lineage, and included factory accessories, this pistol delivers classic Colt styling in a modern, lightweight form.
