The 22A-1 Sport Series uses a single-action only, straight blowback system that keeps operation simple and consistent. Its steel bull barrel and full-size dimensions provide a steady sight picture and comfortable handling for range work and small-bore practice.
The sighting system combines a dovetailed green fiber-optic front sight with a fully adjustable rear, giving clear alignment and easy zeroing. A plain, non-slotted sight rib is fitted to the barrel shroud and does not accept Weaver/Picatinny mounts without swapping to the factory optics base.
A push-button barrel/takedown latch allows quick barrel removal, streamlining cleaning and configuration. The alloy frame wears black synthetic wraparound grips with the S&W medallion, and a matte black anodized finish that complements the matte black barrel assembly.
This pistol was manufactured in the United States at Smith & Wesson’s Houlton, Maine facility, with markings reading "SMITH & WESSON – HOULTON, MAINE U.S.A., 22 LONG RIFLE." The Sport Series was discontinued in 2015 and later succeeded by the SW22 Victory. The serial prefix UBH is outside the 2008–2009 factory recall ranges (UBW/UBY). Standard capacity for this model is 10+1 rounds, and this example includes two factory magazines.
