The Model 85 format delivers a compact, 2-inch barrel .38 Special with a 5-round, swing-out fluted cylinder. It uses a forward-push cylinder release and incorporates a partial underlug with an ejector shroud for protected operation.
Sights are fixed and straightforward: an integral serrated ramp front and a square-notch rear cut into the topstrap. The topstrap carries anti-glare serrations to reduce glare across the sighting plane.
The action is double-action/single-action with an exposed, knurled hammer spur for positive control. Checkered hardwood grips with gold Taurus medallions and a round-butt profile provide a classic appearance and secure purchase.
The revolver wears a blued finish on the frame and cylinder. Markings include the TAURUS • BRASIL crest/logo, TAURUS INT. MFG., MIAMI, FLA., and MADE IN BRAZIL. Additional internal/yoke markings "2.5" and "1855" were observed, along with a knurled ejector rod tip that complements the revolver’s practical controls.
