The P220 is a full-size, single-stack .45 ACP with a 4.4-inch barrel and an 8+1 capacity. It uses a short-recoil, locked-breech system and DA/SA operation with a decocker, paired with a spurred external hammer for confident manual control.
The pistol has a black-finished slide over a black aluminum-alloy frame. It is fitted with aftermarket gray/black textured G10-style laminate grip panels that provide a secure, high-traction feel.
Sighting is via fixed 3-dot night sights with luminous inserts, featuring a single-dot front and two-dot rear. The railed dust cover includes three accessory slots for mounting compatible accessories.
MFG. in Germany, the frame is marked "FRAME MADE IN GERMANY" with a DE country code, along with "SIG SAUER INC., EXETER - NH" import/assembly markings. The single-stack magazines include witness holes to 8, and one is marked "MADE IN ITALY."
