The rifle uses a semi-automatic, short-stroke gas piston system with a tilting bolt, paired with a 20.5-inch barrel for dependable function. Sighting is traditional SKS: a hooded post front sight and a tangent rear sight. A folding spike bayonet remains installed, preserving the Type 56 character.
Construction is all-steel with a blued/painted finish on the receiver, and an in-the-white bolt and bolt carrier. Markings include the triangular arsenal emblem and Chinese characters "五六式" on the receiver, along with the import stamp "JA CHINA SKS 7.62 / GBE H.B., CA."
The one-piece hardwood stock has a glossy lacquer finish and a side-mounted rear sling swivel. A ventilated wooden upper handguard completes the furniture. Length of pull is 12.5 inches, providing a compact, traditional SKS fit.
