The CW9 uses a locked-breech Browning-type operation and a striker-fired, double-action-only mechanism. Its long, smooth trigger pull and passive striker block provide a straightforward, consistent trigger system with simple controls, including a left-side magazine release.

The frame is black polymer with molded texturing, Kahr "K" logos, and horizontal traction bands on the backstrap. The slide is matte stainless with rear serrations only.
The 3.6 in barrel features conventional rifling with a 1:10 RH twist. Sights are the Kahr white bar-dot system: a pinned white dot front post and a drift-adjustable rear notch with a vertical white bar, providing a clean, simple sight picture.
