The SR40 pairs a brushed stainless slide with a durable black glass-filled nylon frame for a clean, two-tone look and balanced handling. Its full-size dimensions measure 7.55 inches in length, 5.52 inches in height, and 1.27 inches in width, with an unloaded weight of 27.25 ounces.
Ruger designed the SR40 slide approximately 0.060 inch wider than the SR9 to help manage the recoil impulse of the .40 S&W cartridge. The slide includes rear serrations and a top-mounted loaded chamber indicator. An integral accessory rail with one cross-slot supports weapon-mounted lights or lasers.
This striker-fired, short-recoil, locked-breech pistol incorporates multiple safety features: a loaded chamber indicator, integral trigger safety, ambidextrous manual thumb safety, striker block, and a magazine disconnect. The reversible backstrap and textured grip panels support a secure, adaptable grip.
Sight alignment is straightforward with adjustable 3-dot irons: a driftable front sight with a single white dot and a click-adjustable, dovetailed rear for elevation. Factory capacity is 15+1 in .40 S&W, and this example was manufactured in the USA in 2011.
