The Hawken series from Thompson/Center, introduced in 1970, played a notable role in the late-20th-century black-powder revival. This example is a .50 caliber, single-shot percussion muzzleloader with right-hand sidelock configuration and an external hammer. Its capacity is 1.
The 28-inch blued octagonal barrel is secured by a single transverse wedge key with oval brass escutcheons. It carries the rollmark: "THOMPSON | CENTER ARMS. ROCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE. 50 CAL. HAWKEN" and is additionally marked "BLACK POWDER OR PYRODEX ONLY—DO NOT USE SMOKELESS POWDER—INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE READ BEFORE USE—".
Sighting is via a dovetailed front blade and an adjustable open rear sight on a ramped base.
The color case-hardened lockplate features factory scroll engraving, pairing classic styling with practical function. Double-set triggers provide a crisp, tunable pull suited to precise shot control. The right-hand percussion sidelock layout and external hammer follow traditional Hawken-pattern cues.
The hardwood fullstock includes a left-side cheekpiece and brass furniture throughout: nosecap, ramrod pipes with entry pipe, wedge escutcheons, trigger guard with finger spur, toe plate, crescent buttplate, and a right-side round-lid patchbox. The length of pull measures 14.0 inches. Inside the patchbox lid is a non-factory hand-scratched inscription reading "3-16-81".
