The Magnum LS configuration pairs a heavy-profile, approximately 20-inch barrel with a laminated hardwood stock, giving this rimfire a stable platform for the fast .17 HMR cartridge. The barrel is stamped '.17 HMR' and has no iron sights, making the included Weaver-style bases on the drilled-and-tapped receiver a ready foundation for mounting a scope of your choice.
The 597 action is a semi-automatic blowback design utilizing twin tool-steel guide rods for smooth bolt travel. It includes a last-shot bolt hold-open, a right-side charging handle, and a cross-bolt safety. Feeding is via a detachable 7-round magnum-pattern magazine; the included metal magazine body is stamped '17 HMR / 22 WMR.'
The laminated stock has a straight comb and a gray/brown laminate finish, with sling swivel studs for easy sling attachment. A white-line spacer buttplate and a 14.0-inch length of pull round out the stock features for a consistent shoulder mount and repeatable cheek weld.
The receiver is roll-marked 'Remington' and 'MODEL 597 MAGNUM,' and the rifle wears a matte blue finish over its aluminum-alloy receiver and carbon-steel barrel. Country of origin is the United States. Note: Remington issued a 2009 safety advisory/recall for Model 597 rifles chambered in .17 HMR.
