The MCX Patrol’s short-stroke gas piston system and internal dual-spring recoil assembly eliminate the need for a buffer tube. This architecture allows a true side-folding, telescoping, minimalist stock and keeps the rifle compact without compromising function. Length of pull is 12.75 inches.
The 16-inch steel barrel is cold hammer-forged and factory-marked "5.56 NATO." It is threaded and fitted with a three-prong flash hider. An aluminum free-float handguard and a full-length 1913 Picatinny top rail bridge the receiver and handguard for uninterrupted mounting space.
Ambidextrous controls include the manual safety and magazine release, complemented by a left-side bolt catch. The rifle also incorporates an ejection-port dust cover and a case deflector. The lower is marked "SIG SAUER, INC. EXETER-NH-USA," and the magwell bears the "MULTI-CALIBER" marking.
This first-generation configuration highlights the MCX platform’s quick-change barrel architecture and bufferless operation. It comes finished in matte black over an aluminum-alloy receiver, with a SIG-pattern polymer pistol grip and installed flip-up iron sights.
