The SD-556 configuration centers on a compact 11.5-inch barrel with a threaded muzzle fitted with an open three-prong flash hider. The upper and lower receivers are forged from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in black anodizing for a uniform, durable exterior.
Controls are set up for versatility, with ambidextrous safety levers and an ambidextrous charging handle featuring extended latches. An enlarged maritime-style bolt catch enhances manipulation. The trigger uses a flat-faced shoe, and the pistol is built on a mil-spec carbine receiver extension with a castle nut.
The aluminum free-float handguard uses the M-LOK interface and carries a continuous 12 o'clock Picatinny rail. This setup keeps barrel accessories isolated from the barrel for consistency while providing ample real estate for mounting compatible accessories.
