FN’s cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel is threaded 1/2-28 and paired with a free-floating polymer handguard, giving the rifle notable accuracy and durability. The 1:7" right-hand twist stabilizes the full range of 5.56 NATO projectiles.
The rifle’s short-stroke gas-piston system runs cool and clean, with a quick-detachable gas block for easy maintenance. A reciprocating charging handle (pre-NRCH generation) allows the shooter to manage malfunctions from either side of the rifle.
Ambidextrous magazine release and safety selector, along with adjustable folding stock, telescoping length of pull, and adjustable cheek rest, let the SCAR adapt to different shooters and mission profiles. The stock folds to the right, shortening overall length for transport while maintaining the ability to fire when folded.
A monolithic numbered Picatinny rail (slots 1–33) spans the upper receiver for consistent optic mounting, and side/bottom accessory rails on the handguard support lights, lasers, or grips. Factory markings include FN HERSTAL BELGIUM and FNH USA importer roll-marks, underscoring its Belgian manufacture.
