It pairs a forged steel slide and a hammer-forged, Melonite-treated barrel with a polymer frame, steel 3-dot sights, and an integral accessory rail. It comes with two 13-round factory magazines and XD Gear carry accessories in the original Springfield Armory hard case.

The XD-45 Service Model is a full-size, short-recoil, striker-fired pistol chambered in .45 ACP with a 4-inch barrel and 13+1 capacity. This configuration includes an ambidextrous manual thumb safety, plus a grip safety, trigger safety, loaded chamber indicator, and internal striker block.
Construction is centered on durability: a forged steel slide and a hammer-forged barrel, both with a Melonite treatment. Dual captive recoil springs on a full-length guide rod manage cycling, while the polymer frame features molded texturing and a matte black finish for consistent control.
Controls and sighting are straightforward and practical. The slide has front and rear serrations and a loaded chamber indicator. Steel, dovetailed fixed 3-dot sights (white dot front and white dots rear) provide a clear sight picture. The magazine release is ambidextrous for flexible operation.
An integral 3-slot accessory rail on the dustcover supports common weapon lights. Approximate dimensions are OAL 7.3 in, height 5.75 in, width 1.2 in, with an empty weight around 30 oz. Markings include "SPRINGFIELD, INC. GENESEO, IL USA" and "MADE IN CROATIA" on the frame, with the Croatia crest atop the slide.
