This Colt Defense AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine HBAR pairs a 16-inch heavy-profile 5.56 NATO barrel with an A3 flat-top upper and T-marked Picatinny rail. Built on forged aluminum-alloy receivers with a matte black anodized finish, it features Colt's C MP proof and magnetic particle inspection markings, a carbine-length gas system, and a collapsible multi-position stock. This example dates to approximately 2009–2011 from Colt's Law Enforcement/Defense line and includes two 30-round magazines and a detachable fixed rear iron sight.

The barrel is marked "C MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 HBAR" and measures 16 inches with a heavy profile for stability. It uses a carbine-length gas system and is factory threaded with an A2 birdcage flash suppressor. Colt's C MP marking denotes proof testing and magnetic particle inspection.
The upper is the A3 flat-top style with a T-marked Picatinny rail (T4–T12 visible) for precise accessory placement. Sights include an A2-style fixed front sight base with side sling swivel and a detachable fixed rear iron sight with windage and elevation drums.
Furniture consists of a carbine-length, two-piece ribbed polymer handguard, an A2-style pistol grip, and a collapsible multi-position polymer stock. Length of pull is approximately 10–13 inches to fit a range of shooters and setups.
Receivers are forged aluminum alloy with a matte black anodized finish. The lower is marked "AR-15A3 TACTICAL CARBINE CAL. .223" with the Colt Defense Hartford, Conn., U.S.A. rollmark. The rifle accepts STANAG-pattern magazines and includes a manual safety selector.
