Clear rollmarks from Savage’s Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts facility and pre-1968 serial number exemption add context, while a J.C. Higgins ventilated recoil pad is installed.

The Model 220A is a hammerless, single-shot break-action with a 1-round capacity and a single-piece extractor for uncomplicated operation. The 28 inch forged steel barrel is rollmarked with Selected Forged Steel and Proof Tested 16 Gauge, and it is set up with a fixed Full (F) choke and a matted top strip near the breech to reduce glare. A single front bead provides a clean sight picture.
The receiver shows a color case-hardened finish paired with a blued barrel, and the steel trigger guard complements the durable build. The top-lever opener and tang-mounted sliding safety, marked with an S, deliver familiar, practical controls. The shotgun is chambered for 2 3/4 inch 16 gauge shells.
Furniture consists of a plain, uncheckered pistol-grip buttstock and a splinter forend, offering a full-size profile with a 14.75 inch length of pull. A J.C. Higgins ventilated recoil pad has been installed. The exterior layout retains the clean, hammerless profile associated with this model.
