The 50DS configuration pairs a 5-inch barrel with Chiappa’s signature low-bore-axis system that fires from the bottom cylinder chamber to reduce muzzle rise. The enclosed internal hammer and external cocking lever support DA/SA operation while maintaining the revolver’s distinctive profile and smooth trigger characteristics.
Construction blends strength and efficiency: a black anodized 7075-T6 aluminum frame keeps weight to about 31.5 oz, while the steel barrel and steel cylinder handle .357 Magnum. The flat-sided, hexagonal-profile six-shot cylinder further trims bulk. The revolver also accepts .38 Special, and this .357 Magnum version can be fired with or without moon clips.
The barrel assembly features a ventilated shroud and lightening cuts, contributing to balance and quick transitions. Sighting is fast and precise with a red fiber-optic front blade and a green fiber-optic rear that is adjustable for windage and elevation.
An integral under-barrel Picatinny rail offers mounting space for compatible accessories. Overall length is about 9.5 inches, striking a useful balance between sight radius and maneuverability while maintaining the Rhino’s characteristic handling.
Proudly made in Italy, this revolver carries Italian proof house marks, CIP N nitro proof, Gardone proof symbols, and the rectangular date/inspection code "Z1," along with a Chiappa Firearms, Dayton, OH import mark. The factory case label identifies the variant as the 50DS .357 Mag Black Anodized, item 340.220 (mfg part number 340.220).
