The M&P9 Shield Gen 1 is a slim, single-stack 9mm designed for concealment, here configured with a left-side manual thumb safety. It is Smith & Wesson SKU 180021 and uses the classic Shield operating system buyers expect, with a capacity of 8+1 when using the included 8-round magazines.
The slide and barrel are stainless steel treated with a black Melonite (nitride) finish, paired with a black polymer frame featuring an embedded steel chassis. Sights are the classic 3-dot setup with a dovetailed white-dot front and a dovetailed white two-dot rear that is drift adjustable. The slide has rear cocking serrations.
The installed barrel is the standard 3.125 in (3.1 in nominal) non-threaded unit. Also included is an aftermarket SilencerCo threaded 9x19 barrel with a knurled thread protector. A loaded-chamber witness hole is present.
This striker-fired pistol uses a hinged trigger with an integral safety tab, a striker block, and the manual thumb safety. It features Smith & Wesson’s sear-deactivation system for disassembly without pulling the trigger and is capable of firing with the magazine removed. Overall width is about 0.95 in, and weight is approximately 20.8 oz.
