The Model 308MX was developed around the .308 Marlin Express cartridge, created in collaboration with Hornady for use with LEVERevolution pointed bullets that are safe in tubular magazines. This example has a 22 inch carbon steel barrel with a 1:12 twist and a bore that presents clean, sharp rifling. The barrel roll-mark reads: "308MX THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO., NORTH HAVEN, CT, U.S.A. MODEL 308MX - CAL .308 MARLIN EXPRESS".
Its receiver follows the Marlin 336 pattern with side ejection, a solid, flat-top profile, and factory drilling and tapping. The receiver and barrel wear a blued finish. An exposed hammer is complemented by an installed hammer spur extension, and a one-piece cross-slot scope rail is mounted to the receiver.
Sighting is handled by a ramp front with a brass bead (no hood) and an adjustable folding semi-buckhorn rear with an elevator. The walnut stock features a pistol-grip profile, cut checkering with diamond panels, and sling swivel studs, capped with a hard plastic buttplate. Length of pull is 13.5 inches.
The tubular magazine is partial length, stopping short of the muzzle, and holds four rounds. This rifle was manufactured in the United States in 2007 during the JM-era at Marlin’s North Haven facility.
