It features a 22 in carbon steel sporter barrel with a crowned muzzle, a blued finish throughout, and a walnut stock with classic Ruger details. The receiver uses integral dovetail scope bases with Ruger rings installed, and the rifle retains the Southport, Conn. address with the post-1978 warning rollmark.

This M77R Standard uses the original tang safety layout and an external Mauser-type extractor with a plunger ejector. Feeding is from an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, and capacity is stated at 4 rounds. The 74- prefix serial range places production in 1979.
The 22 in sporter-profile barrel is carbon steel with a crowned muzzle. It is chambered in .270 Win, a versatile hunting caliber well suited to this platform. The rifle is finished in blue on both barrel and receiver.
The receiver is carbon steel with integral dovetail scope bases, and factory-style Ruger rings are already installed. There are no iron sights (no front or rear sights). Markings include the Southport, Conn. address and a post-1978 warning barrel rollmark.
The walnut stock has a pistol grip with a black Ruger medallion grip cap, checkered fore-end and grip, and an orange recoil pad. Sling swivel studs are installed, and a detachable front swivel is included. Length of pull is 13.5.
