The MRAD is built around a monolithic upper receiver machined from 7000-series aluminum, delivering strength and repeatability. The user-changeable barrel system is secured by two Torx screws with a 140 in-lbs torque spec, and the forend is clearly marked "140 IN/LBS T30 PLUS" to guide setup.
Its 26-inch heavy fluted barrel in .338 Lapua uses a 1:9.4 twist and ends in a threaded muzzle with a multi-baffle brake for recoil control. The handguard is free-floated and features M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, plus a short forward 12 o'clock Picatinny section. A full-length MIL-STD-1913 top rail with a factory 10 mil cant supports precise optic mounting.
The left-side folding, skeletonized aluminum buttstock provides an adjustable cheekpiece, a bag rider, and adjustable length of pull that is set to 14 inches. A Magpul MOE pistol grip and a user-adjustable trigger that can be removed without tools round out the rifle's ergonomic and serviceable design.
A detachable box magazine system offers 10+1 capacity, and this rifle comes with four factory 10-round magazines. Receiver markings include "MRAD MULTI-ROLE ADAPTIVE DESIGN" and Barrett's Murfreesboro, TN, USA location. The MRAD platform later formed the basis of the MK22 ASR adopted by USSOCOM and the U.S. Army.
