Built on the proven SKS platform, this M59/66 is a Yugoslavian Zastava Arms rifle chambered in 7.62x39 and marked "MDL 59/66 YUGO 7.62x39 C.A.I. GEORGIA VT." The action is a gas-operated, short-stroke piston system, and the receiver is steel. Matching serial numbers are present on the receiver, bolt carrier, receiver cover, trigger guard, and magazine floorplate.
The barrel measures 20.5 inches and is non-chrome-lined. Feeding is via a fixed 10-round internal magazine loaded with stripper clips. Sighting is handled by a hooded front post and a tangent rear sight graduated 1–10, with this variant not equipped with flip-up night sights.
An integral 22 mm spigot-type grenade launcher is paired with folding grenade launcher sights and a manual gas cut-off, as specified for the M59/66 pattern. A bayonet lug is present.
