The P-3AT uses a DAO, locked-breech, short-recoil action with an internal hammer and an internal hammer block. It forgoes an external slide stop/hold-open lever and uses a left-side magazine release. The design prioritizes a streamlined, snag-resistant profile suited to a micro footprint.
Construction centers on a 4140 steel barrel and a polymer grip frame backed by a 7075-T6 aluminum internal chassis. The fixed integral front blade and rear notch sights are built into the slide. The grip wears molded "KEL TEC" branding and fine checkering. Dimensions are compact at approximately 5.2 inches OAL, 3.5 inches high, 0.77 inches wide, and about 8.3 oz unloaded.
